The popular Broadway musical “School of Rock” is casting future replacements for both the Broadway production and various touring companies. Based on the hit film, the musical was developed by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The show differs from the film, focusing more on the younger roles.

The production is casting for the leading role of Dewey Finn. He is the slacker rocker who impersonates a substitute teacher, teaching his students to play rock music rather than the standard curriculum. The role is for male talent, aged 20–40. Auditionees should have a high singing voice, be able to sing in the pop and rock genres, and be a “true original.” Basic guitar skills are necessary.

Other roles are for children under 5’ tall, male and female, aged 8–12. The “Kids of Horace Green” become a tight rock ‘n’ roll band under Dewey Finn’s guidance, eventually participating in a battle of the bands competition. The production is especially looking for children with musical skills: girls that can play bass and boys that can play guitar, drums, and/or keys.

The show is holding an open casting call in Los Angeles on April 14. Roles are open for touring companies and the Broadway production. Touring companies are signed to an Equity Seta Category 1 contract. The Broadway company uses an Equity production contract.
