Chloé and Maud’s Annual DC Tap Festival is dancing back for its eighth year.
Sisters Chloé and Maud Arnold started the DC Tap Festival to unite the tap dance community, as well as teach and showcase the art of tap.
The festival features master classes, a student showcase, a cutting contest, panel discussions, and a concert featuring renowned tap dancers and young talent from DC and beyond.
This year there are residencies scheduled with Derick Grant and Jason Janas from March 14–17. Grant is an established performer, choreographer, and director whose career spans three decades. Janas first trained in tap in New Jersey, and his experience has now taken him all over the world teaching at festivals everywhere from Vancouver to Zürich to Barcelona, and New York City where he is a faculty member at Broadway Dance Center.
Anthony Morigerato is leading a master class on Thursday, March 17. Morigerato started his tap training at 4 years old and has since become a professional instructor. His choreography has been featured on the dance talent competition show “So You Think You Can Dance.”
A competition follows the master class. Contestants should be dressed appropriately and use clean and/or radio edit music. Dancers competing are required to attend at least three classes at the DC Tap Festival. Additionally, the dance must be a tap routine or centered around tap. Solos, duos or trios, and group numbers can enter.
Classes will be held all day March 18–20. Each day culminates with a big event. There will be a concert held on Friday, March 18; a tap world movie and tap jam session on Saturday, March 19; and a student showcase and cutting contest on Sunday, March 20.
