During his Q&A with Backstage and the SAG Foundation, first-time Emmy nominee Tituss Burgess chatted about Netflix’s breakout comedy “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and the character—named Titus—that creator Tina Fey had written with him in mind.
“I feel like communication is the same whether you’re cooking for someone or singing or writing a song or writing a play or ordering from McDonald’s,” he said. “You get the need on your mind and you go from there. I just follow the trail of what [my character] needs.”
When asked what advice he’d give his younger self, Burgess responded, “There is absolutely nothing that you can control except showing up and doing your job. Do your fucking work. When it’s your turn it’s your turn. That’s just the way it is.”
