Cirque du Soleil has signed an official deal with Actors’ Equity. The company, known for its acrobatic feats and ethereal sets, penned a contract with the union ensuring all future Cirque du Soleil Theatrical productions on Broadway will run under Equity contracts, beginning with their Broadway debut, “Paramour.”

“We are delighted to welcome Cirque du Soleil Theatrical to the Equity family,” said executive director of Equity Mary McColl in a statement. “We look forward to a successful, long-term relationship and to the many additional work weeks this agreement will provide for our members on Broadway and across the country.”

“We continue to hear that our 50,000-plus actors and stage managers want ‘Broadway’ and ‘touring’ to be synonymous with ‘Equity,’ and this represents a major gain toward that goal,” added president Katie Shindle in the same statement.

“Paramour,” the first of Cirque’s made-for-Broadway productions, is set in the Hollywood Golden Age and begins previews April 16 with a May 25 opening date at the Lyric Theatre.

It will be the first of many productions Cirque Theatrical has in the works, including the Broadway revival of “The Wiz,” which enjoyed a resurgence in attention after the Kenny Leon–directed, star-studded show was broadcast on NBC late last year.
