There is a parallel universe in which Miley Cyrus was cast as Éponine in the 2012 feature film adaptation of “Les Misérables.” And this universe isn’t far off, either.

In fact, the former “Hannah Montana” star actually auditioned for the role via a good old-fashioned self-tape—which you can watch right here.

In the just-resurfaced video, Cyrus takes on the anthemic “On My Own,” singing the ballad completely acapella.

The part, of course, did not ultimately end up in Cyrus’ hands, but instead went to then-newcomer Samantha Barks, who is currently starring as Vivian in the musical adaptation of “Pretty Woman” on Broadway. And Cyrus, as you may know, is doing just fine.

All’s well that ends well in post-revolutionary France, right?
