'Potemkin' Coming to NYC, L.A. for One Week Only

Earlier this morning, Kino International announced that Sergei Eisenstein's 1925 black-and-white classic "Battleship Potemkin" will hit a one-week theatrical run at New York's Film Forum from Jan. 14-20.

Now The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog confirmed it's also coming to L.A.

The movie, which has undergone a 10-year restoration, will play a one-week engagement at the NuArt Theatre in West L.A, running March 18-24.

"Battleship Potemkin" is not only a revolutionary piece of propaganda filmmaking, something Eisenstein did very well with his Soviet movies, and pushed the envelope of violence in its time, it's also hailed as a masterpiece of editing whose influence has been felt into modern times. (It's the big "Odessa steps" sequence that cineastes talk about.)

This new 35mm print features all of Eisenstein's 1,374 shots, included for the first time since the 1925 Moscow premiere. And it's got Edmund Meisel's original score performed by the Deutsches Filmorchestra.
