Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon have been immortalized on the big screen, but not quite like this.
“Elvis & Nixon” is a semi-fictional account of Presley’s visit to the Oval Office. Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey star in the comedic untold story of the famous December 1970 meeting between Presley (Shannon) and Nixon (Spacey).
Spacey, most recently seen on Netflix’s “House of Cards,” is back in the White House, except this time playing a real-life President. Shannon, sporting a highly-coiffed black wig and Presley’s trademark suit, nails the King of rock ‘n’ roll’s persona.
“He’s one of the most famous men on the planet—loves guns, hates The Beatles,” relays Nixon advisor Egil Krogh (Colin Hanks).
Presley is seen in the trailer delivering a letter to the White House gates requesting that Nixon meet with him. Nixon is incredulous in a conversation with advisors (“You think we should meet with him? During my nap hour?”)
“Elvis & Nixon” humorously depicts Presley and Nixon’s get-together ultimately leading up to the iconic photograph taken of the unlikely pair. Today, the picture of Presley and Nixon is the most requested item in the National Archives.
Evan Peters (“American Horror Story”), Alex Pettyfer (“Beastly”), Tracy Letts (“Homeland”), Sky Ferreira (“The Green Inferno”), and Tate Donovan (“24: Live Another Day”) round out the ensemble cast with indie director Liza Johnson (“Return”) leading the charge.
The King enters the building this April.
