The Newport Beach Film Festival is currently running. More than 300 films from around the world are spotlighted, including features, shorts, documentaries, and animation. The films are competing for Jury Awards and Audience Awards. Included are Crash, starring Sandra Bullock; Layer Cake, directed by Matthew Vaughn; and a 50th anniversary Jim Henson retrospective, among other offerings. The screenings (Apr. 21-30) take place in several locations.

Moving Arts presents a staged reading of E.M. Lewis' new play, Reading to Vegetables. It's about a pre-med college student who takes a summer job as a research assistant on a psychological experiment being conducted at a local hospital, leading to unfortunate results.
