Script read, audition tape nailed – so it’s time to join the rest of London as we all cling on desperately to the tail end of summer.  This week’s picks involve dancing, beer and a failed Blue Man. You can’t say this city isn’t eclectic…

Dance theatre fusion Queen
Choreographer and co-founder of Big Dance Theatre Annie-B Parson will be at the Old Vic on Friday to talk about her interesting and glittering career, which has seen her work with everyone from St Vincent and David Byrne to the Royal Ballet. She’ll also be chatting about her new production 17c, described as a “fast-paced and feminist exploration” of the diaries of Samuel Pepys. (£6)

Laugh it out
You might know him as Tobias “Never Nude” Funke in Arrested Development but David Cross is also a very funny stand up. His new show Oh, Come On hits the Leicester Square Theatre this week, which Cross says he is “beyond aroused” to perform... (£27.25)

Q&A with Lynne Ramsay
Over at the British Film Institute they’re celebrating director Lynne Ramsay’s 2002 drama Morvern Callar, featuring a breakout role for a young Samantha Morton. After the screening, Ramsay will be on hand to talk about the film, navigating Hollywood as a director, and will also answer questions. (£12.65)

Embrace your inner German
Wo bist das bier? Well, most of das bier is in the Olympic Park for the huge annual London Oktoberfest which kicks off this week. If men in leather shorts, oompah bands and copious amounts of sausage washed down with a fine German beer sounds gut then this may be for you. (£6)

Get arty outside Zone One
Everybody knows how expensive it is to live in London, so it’s no surprise that many artistic Londoners have had to move to the outer boroughs. The Deptford X arts festival is in full flow this week offering talks, tours and emerging artists galore. They’re taking over this borough’s slightly unloved public spaces, so why not indulge in a little networking in this new and thriving artistic community. (Free)
