What's Happening in NYC Dance 4/16–4/22

As we make our way through April, we’ve got more spring season performances to be inspired by than we can add to our calendar! This is an exceptionally exciting week as the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Tickets to the Joyce are selling fast as The Martha Graham Dance Company and The Joffrey Ballet will also be joining this company to celebrate this incredible milestone. Happy dancing, artists!

PERFORMANCES
Lar Lubovitch Dance Company will be celebrating their 50th anniversary at The Joyce April 17–22 with a world premiere and signature works by the revered master choreographer. The Martha Graham Dance Company and the Joffrey Ballet will also appear to present works by Lubovitch in honor of this rare milestone. (Tickets start at $10)

Caterina Rago Dance Company will be holding their gala performance April 19 at the Martha Graham Dance Studio Theater. All proceeds will benefit the creation of new works and Tecniche Di Danza Moderna, Rago’s Educational Program. (Tickets: $30–50)

From April 19–22, Brooklyn Ballet will be performing a multifaceted program including works of legendary dance makers George Balanchine, Merce Cunningham, Isadora Duncan, and Michel Fokine in Downtown Brooklyn. The company will also premiere interdisciplinary works by artistic director Lynn Parkerson. (Tickets: $27)

Come delve into Merce Cunningham’s “Signals” with a performance and discussion with Nancy Dalva, Douglas Dunn, Rashaun Mitchell, and Valda Setterfield on April 20 at the 92nd Street Y. (Tickets: $10)

AUDITIONS
Want to make the move to sunny California? LA Dance Project is holding male dancer auditions this spring in NYC. Submit your materials to audition@ladanceproject.org to reserve your spot.

Ballet Hispanico will be holding their men’s audition on April 22 at their studio, with callbacks on April 23. Please bring a resume, headshot, and $10 audition fee.

CHOREOGRAPHIC OPPORTUNITIES

CLASSES + WORKSHOPS
The Lar Lubovitch Dance Company will be holding a master class April 21 as part of The Joyce Master Class Series. All workshops take place at Gibney Dance Center downtown. 

Join Rashaun Mitchell for a Merce Cunningham Trust Workshop April 21–22. Participants will learn the underlying structures and excerpted movement material from the dance “Pictures.” No audition is required, simply RSVP by April 20.
