A Rising Star's Success in Commercials and Music Videos

“You have to put a little in to get any result. A lot of people are hesitant to pay for professional headshots or pay for a service like Backstage. But I always tell them that it’s worth the investment if the career is worth it to you.”

Like so many others, Elise Biscaro’s interest in being part of the entertainment industry began when she discovered at an early age that she liked how people responded to her as a performer. “I enjoy making other people smile, laugh, and feel things through the art created on the screen. It's a very cool process to be a part of and see come together," she explained.

In addition to some film and theater projects, Biscaro has found success as a performer in various commercials and music videos, including a lead role in a Minecraft commercial, a supporting role in a Yamaha commercial, and performances in multiple YouTube videos. Her experience showcases the diverse opportunities available to actors on Backstage dedicated to getting experience in various media and building their careers.

Building a strong portfolio and network

For those new to Backstage, Biscaro emphasized the importance of building a strong portfolio to stand out to casting directors and talent scouts. “Focus a lot on your portfolio, build a strong résumé, and really connect with the people that you work with on projects because they can end up being your lifelong friends and partners in the industry!” she advised.

A Backstage member for more than five years, Biscaro said the platform has been a consistent source of work for her. Even during the challenges posed by the global pandemic, she remained committed to taking advantage of all the resources Backstage offered to book work and grow her network. “I don’t think I missed a month even during COVID when things were super slow. I keep getting work and finding great connections,” she explained.

From New York to Los Angeles

Biscaro began her career in New York, landing her first Backstage project—a commercial shot in Brooklyn. Now based in Los Angeles, she continues to thrive in the industry, adapting to different markets and jobs.

Her advice to actors in any market was to invest in your career and leverage all local available resources, since you never know what role or person you meet might be your connection to the next great opportunity.

Advice for newcomers

Biscaro offered valuable advice for those starting their careers. “You have to put a little in to get any result. A lot of people are hesitant to pay for professional headshots or pay for a service like Backstage. But I always tell them that it’s worth the investment if the career is worth it to you.

When preparing for auditions, Biscaro emphasized thorough research, including painstaking reading of scripts and instructions to fully understand the project and character.

Elise's experience has brought her some valuable lessons, too. "There isn't really a point in trying to be like anyone else because they've seen it all. You just have to stick with what's most comfortable to you and what you are most confident with because that will be your gold mine."
