It’s hard to beat London in the summer so why try? You work hard, striving to be the best you can be—let the city provide you with a little well-earned R and R. Afer all, you’ve earned it. Here are this week’s top picks for a perfect summer week.
Shakespeare al fresco
Dotted around London are private garden squares usually only open to lucky nearby homeowners but every summer, the Shakespeare in the Squares festival also gives theatre nuts like us access. This year’s production is ‘As You Like It’, a truly magical way to experience the Bard in the open air. (Tickets from £14)
A Night with Nighy.
You’ve seen him rock out in ‘Love Actually’, time travel in ‘About Time’, and take on Johnny Depp in the ‘Pirates’ films; now it’s time to see the brilliant Bill Nighy in the flesh on June 22. He’ll be at the Curzon Mayfair talking about his career and his new film, period drama ‘The Bookshop’. (Tickets: £17.50)
Project darling, project!
The use of video projection in theatrical productions is one of the most creative and exciting new tools available to adventurous directors. On June 21, the National Theatre’s sound and video department will be sharing their knowledge and exploring how projection can bring your plays to life in this practical, technical workshop. (Tickets: £10)
Dance the night away.
Dancing for a good cause in one of London’s most iconic buildings? Yes, please. On June 22, the V&A is hosting a DJ-led dance event to raise money for refugee charities. Dance the night away under the museum’s massive chandelier and do a good thing at the same time. (Free)
