Hello and welcome to one of our shoutouts for projects casting around the U.K. As always there’s a mix of opportunities for all ages, abilities, and locations but do remember to check if you fit the bill before applying. “Dancing Bear”
Are you a dancer and performer? Or perhaps an actor-musician? This new production has something for everyone, so keep reading.
“Dancing Bear”, a “multi-disciplinary exploration of gender, sexuality, and faith”, is mounting a development of the production ahead of touring in 2018, co-produced by Contact in Manchester. (You can watch a trailer of their last production at West Yorkshire Playhouse here.)
First, the team is currently looking for two actor-musician/string players and are especially encouraging applicants from an LGBTQ+ and BAME backgrounds.
The two musician-performers will make up a multi-talented cast of ten. Alongside playing as part of the live band on stage, each musician-performer will also multi-role. On occasion, you will also step out of roles and speak as yourself. Some dancing is involved but you don’t need to be trained.
The team is also looking for their lead performer who must be a trained contemporary dancer. This is for the role of Dancing Bear and, as with the other parts, you will also step out of the role and speak as yourself.
Rehearsals take place at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford from the11–22 Dec. 2017 and 3–10 Jan. 2018 with a preview at Theatre in the Mill on the 11th. Following this, there’s a final rehearsal on 5 Feb. 2018 ahead of performances at The Palace Theatre in Manchester on the 6 and 7 Feb. Tour dates include 18–30 June 2018 with more dates being confirmed, so your flexibility is ideal!
All performers are paid at ITC/Equity rates.
