Hello and welcome to one of our shoutouts for projects casting around the U.K. As always there’s a mix of opportunities for all ages, abilities, and locations but do remember to check if you fit the bill before applying. Although we make every attempt to verify castings before we hit publish, please ensure that you do your own research before firing off those headshots and Backstage links.

“The Dance Teacher”

Short film “The Dance Teacher,” from award-winning filmmaker Dorothy Allen-Pickard, tells the powerful story of a young woman dreaming of becoming a professional dancer but coming to terms with the fact it may never happen. After teaching movement in a care home, she forms an unlikely friendship and must choose between following her dreams or finding fulfillment in her own community.

The team is casting for the two lead roles, Ayesha and Michael.

Ayesha will be played by a female of African descent, aged 22–27. You need to be athletic, muscular, and be either a dancer or someone with movement experience. The character is hardworking, passionate, and charismatic and uses all her skills to enthuse Michael and form a friendship across generations.

For Michael, the team is looking for a white male, aged 70–90. The character is sharp, proud, and straight-faced, but he has a wicked sense of humour and is deliberately provocative. Once trained in classical ballet, now he’s confined to a wheelchair.

“The Dancer” shoots May 11–15 in London and pays equity minimum. Head over to the casting to apply now.
