“Poldark”
Historical Cornish drama “Poldark” returns for a fifth series and is gearing up to start filming next month. Aidan Turner returns as titular hero Captain Ross Poldark alongside the only confirmed cast member, Eleanor Tomlinson. Rumours are that despite enormous popularity, this could be the final series and that the show will go out with a bang rather than a whimper. Casting is by Susie Parriss Casting.
“Queens of Mystery”
“Best of British” AcornTV are casting their fresh drama “Queens of Mystery.” The three feature-length episodes that make up the first series follow a female detective and her three aunts, all of whom are well-known crime writers. It’s created by “New Tricks” writers Julian Unthank and Matthew Thomas and casting director Louise Cross is confirmed. Also confirmed is a shooting schedule of ten weeks starting in September with locations including London and Kent.
“Derry Girls”
Comedy “Derry Girls” broke the mold and found a legion of fans when it arrived on Channel 4 last year, showing a group of girls struggling with teenage life in Northern Ireland and set against the backdrop of The Troubles. Now it’s back for a second series, with the main cast returning, including Nicola Coughlan and Saoirse-Monica Jackson. Writer Lisa McGee (“Being Human”) has written six new episodes, shooting beginning Oct. 8 in Northern Ireland. Casting director Carla Stronge is attached.
“Gold Digger”
The BBC’s new gritty six-parter “Gold Digger” has nabbed Julia Ormond to play the lead role, also named Julia. The series explores the rippling repercussions of a relationship between a wealthy 60-year-old woman and Benjamin, a much younger man. The series is written and created by Marnie Dickens (“Thirteen”) and the first three episodes will be directed by Vanessa Caswill (“Little Women”). “Gold Digger” shoots from Aug. 20 in the U.K. Hubbard Casting is likely to be attached.
