US/UK Theater Exchange Program Opens

On Jan. 28 the Old Vic, the London theater at which Laurence Olivier performed and Kevin Spacey is now artistic director, will begin receiving applications for the 2011 TS Eliot US/UK Exchange program.

Sponsored by the T.S. Eliot Estate, the program is designed to foster the global theater community and encourage emerging American and British artists. The Exchange provides 21-30 year old theater practitioners with the chance to hone their talents and gain new skills by living in theater communities across the Atlantic Ocean.

In May, 50 American producers, directors, writers, and actors, will travel to London. The week prior, 50 British artists will travel to New York City.

During the week-long Exchange, both groups will study in master classes, create new work, and participate in networking opportunities by meeting senior industry representatives from such organizations as The Old Vic, National Theatre, MTC, and Lincoln Center.

A transatlantic panel of senior industry practitioners will choose the candidates that will participate in the program. The last day to send an application is Friday, Feb. 18.
