The executive who shepherded the early summer blockbuster "Prometheus" to the theaters has been rewarded with a promotion.

Steve Asbell, who has spent 10 years with 20th Century Fox, has been promoted to executive vice president, the company announced Monday.

In addition to overseeing the development and production on Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus,” he also worked on the sci-fi thriller “Chronicle."

"It gives me great satisfaction to have watched Steve grow and succeed," Emma Watts, Fox's president of production, said in a statement. "He delivered two excellent films for us this year in ‘Prometheus’ and ‘Chronicle.’ He’s not only a talented executive but an exceptional colleague."

Asbell started at the company as a director of production in 2002 and was made vice president two years later, then senior vice president in 2009, according to a release. During his tenure, he's worked on “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” “Gulliver’s Travels,” “The X Files: I Want to Believe” and Ridley Scott’s “Kingdom of Heaven."

He's currently overseeing production on “The Wolverine,” a sequel to “Chronicle,” and a reboot of “Fantastic Four."
