Dancers across the country can put on their newsboy caps and go to any of nine open calls this spring for a chance to dance on Broadway in “Newsies the Musical,” the show’s casting directors announced Feb. 4.
Telsey + Company’s nationwide “Newsies” audition tour kicks off this weekend in Philadelphia, Pa., and continues through May in cities including Boston, Denver, Louisville, Atlanta, and more.
The casting directors will only see male dancers between 16–22 years old at these auditions. Performers of all ethnicities who are strong, technically trained dancers and also tap and sing well are encouraged to attend. Acrobatics and tumbling skills are a plus.
Dance auditions will be held Friday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Pa.; Friday, Feb. 15, at 4 p.m. at the Westin Boston Waterfront in Boston, Mass.; Friday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. at Crowne Plaza Denver Airport in Denver, Colo.; Sunday, March 10, at 10 a.m. at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts in Louisville, Ky.; Monday, March 25, at 10 a.m. in Santa Clara, Calif. (location TBA); Friday, April 5, at 4 p.m. at the Sheraton Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J.; Friday, April 12, at 4 p.m. at the Greenville Convention Center in Greenville, N.C.; Friday, April 19, at 4 p.m. at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, Ga.; and Monday, May 6, at 10 a.m. in Phoenix, Ariz. (location TBA).
Equity and non-Equity performers will be seen at all auditions. Dancers should bring headshots and résumés, sneakers, tap shoes, and knee pads.
The auditions in Philadelphia, Denver, Santa Clara, East Rutherford, Greenville, Atlanta, and Phoenix will be held concurrently with New York City Dance Alliance's regional dance conventions, while auditions in Louisville are held during the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC), but participation in these events is not required to audition for “Newsies.”
Auditions will also be held in New York City in July.
Dancers who cannot attend these auditions may email video submissions to be considered. Visit newsiesthemusical.com for details.
