Today in Backstage casting notices, you have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor with the development of a brand-new musical, parodying the beloved “Oregon Trail” computer game. We’ve also got three more opportunities, including a new HBO series and a regional production of “West Side Story.” Check them out below!

“OREGON TRAIL: THE MUSICAL”
Five leading roles are sought for an upcoming workshop production of “Oregon Trail: The Musical.” The parody, based upon the ‘90s computer game you surely remember, depicts strangers heading west who “face dysentery, broken arms, 2,000 pounds of food, trades, and each other on an epic quest for the American Dream.” The piece will rehearse in November with the workshop slated for December in Los Angeles, California.

“TO TAKE A LOVER”
“To Take a Lover,” an indie feature “exploring marriage and gender norms of the 1940s,” is casting actors for two leading roles. Seeking a male actor aged 25–45 to depict a “1940s husband,” and another male actor aged 20–45 to play “a Grim Reaper of sorts,” the project will rehearse this winter with shooting slated for spring 2017 in New York City.

“WEST SIDE STORY”
Union and nonunion actors are sought for Western Playhouse’s upcoming production of the classic musical, “West Side Story.” Seeking talent to play several roles including the iconic Tony and Maria, the production will rehearse in May 2017, with a run slated for June 16–24, 2017 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

HBO’S “THE DEUCE”
“The Deuce,” HBO’s forthcoming drama set in 1970s New York, is casting background talent. The series, which stars James Franco, seeks actors to portray “1970s premiere attendees.” The paid gig will shoot Oct. 19 in New York City.
