It’s time for spring cleaning! The Broadway Green Alliance (BGA), the NYC theater community’s environmental advocates, are sponsoring a textile collection drive for industry professionals and theater fans tomorrow, April 27 from 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. near the Minskoff Theatre on West 45th Street.

According to a statement, accepted items include “all used, clean, and dry clothing, including paired shoes, handbags, belts, hats, and household and backstage items such as curtains, linens, towels, and other reusable textiles.” In the last seven years, BGA has collected over 20,000 pounds of clothing from drives like this one. Green Captains from various Broadway shows, including “The Crucible,” “Fun Home,” and “Wicked,” will be volunteering at the drive. Co-presenting the event is Wearable Collections, a clothing recycling company that will repurpose 96 percent of all donations.

“The Broadway Green Alliance is pleased to be again working with Wearable Collections, an NYC based company that like the BGA wants to give members of the theatre community the resources to keep costumes, towels, sheets and other textiles used in productions out of landfills,” said BGA coordinator Rebekah Sale in a statement.

Developed as an extension of the Broadway League, the BGA is an affiliate program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and works closely with the Natural Resources Defense Council to educate, motivate, and inspire greener practices among theater professionals everywhere.
