Zooey Deschanel has recently redefined herself as a television star, and now the Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated “New Girl” actor is committing to making more projects for the small screen as a producer.
Deschanel and Sophia Rossi, co-founders of the female-centric Hello Giggles online community, have launched a production company and signed a first-look deal with “New Girl” producer 20th Century Fox Television, Deadline reported.
“We’ve known Zooey as an actress through ‘New Girl,’ and as we got to know her as a producer through the script she developed, we quickly realized that there is so much more to her,” said 20th Century Fox TV Chairman Gary Newman, according to Deadline. “Zooey and Sophia have their finger on the pulse of young people and particularly young women, and we really responded to that.”
As part of their two-year agreement with Fox, Deschanel and Rossi will develop new comedy and drama projects for the TV studio. The duo already executive produced “Must Be Nice,” a comedy pilot written by “New Girl” consulting producer J.J. Philbin and produced by 20th TV, which got a script commitment at Fox but has not been picked up to series.
Deschanel is also a producer on “New Girl.”
