Want to know how to win the world’s top acting awards and become a big-screen icon? Your first step might be to book a national commercial or two. Freeman worked in New York theater, making his Broadway debut in “Hello, Dolly!” before making the jump to on-camera work, breaking through with roles in a soap opera, PBS kids’ show, and the 1987 feature film “Street Smart.” Like any actor on the steady ascent to stardom, he periodically found work on the small screen, including in these 30-second advertisements for Listerine and Polaroid. Can you see the beginnings of a charismatic movie star?
