“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”
Wakanda forever but especially right now: in a recent interview with Kevin Feige, the Marvel Studios head confirmed that production has officially begun on the “Black Panther” sequel. Filming is currently taking place at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, where it has been since June. The likelihood of seeing set photos for the Marvel blockbuster sequel is fairly low, at least for a while.

The original film starred the late Chadwick Boseman, who died from colon cancer in 2020. Following his passing, it was unclear if the sequel would actually go into production, but 10 months later, the project has begun—with many edits. Co-star Angela Bassett told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview that there have been five versions of the script and that it is still going through changes in the wake of Boseman’s death. Said Feige in his interview, “It’s clearly very emotional without Chad… but everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans. We’re going to do it in a way that would make Chad proud.”
The rest of the original cast is expected to return, including Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba, and Bassett. Ryan Coogler will also return to direct, working from a script he wrote with Joe Robert Cole. The plot is mainly being kept under wraps, but details made available by Production Weekly and reported by CBR show that the movie is expected to explore the “intertwined history” between Wakanda and the lost city of Atlantis. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” will be released on July 8, 2022.
