The larger-than-life Dolly Parton is heading back to the big screen. Several outlets are reporting that Parton will star and produce “Run, Rose, Run,” an adaptation of the bestselling novel she co-wrote with James Patterson. Along with this exciting news, Season 2 of HBO’s “Hacks” is also making headlines. The series has added four new cast members, including Laurie Metcalf and Margaret Cho.

“Run, Rose, Run”

Dolly is heading back to the big screen. First reported by Deadline, Dolly Parton will star in and produce a film adaptation of her bestseller with James Patterson, “Run, Rose, Run.” Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine is the banner behind the new film, which, like the book, will be set in Nashville. Parton described herself as “proud, excited, and honored” to be working on the project with Witherspoon. The multihyphenate also recorded a companion album of the same name as the novel, which was released earlier this month. No further creative team information or casting news has been released about the film at this time.

“Hacks”

We’ve got good news for those who fell in love with HBO’s “Hacks.” According to Variety, Laurie Metcalf, Martha Kelly, Ming-Na Wen, and Margaret Cho have joined the upcoming second season. The cabler is currently keeping all of the character descriptions of the newly announced actors under wraps. However, we do know that Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder will return as Deborah and Ava, respectively. The new season will pick up where the award-winning premiere season left off: with the duo traveling across the country as they workshop Deborah’s new, more personal standup act. Also returning to Season 2 will be Emmy nominees Carl Clemons-Hopkins and Jane Adams with Christopher McDonald, Kaitlin Olson, Paul W. Downs, Poppy Liu, Rose Abdoo, Mark Indelicato, Meg Stalter, Angela E. Gibbs, Luenell, Johnny Sibilly, Joe Mande, Ally Maki, Lorenza Izzo, and Wayne Newton also returning to or joining the show. Production has begun as of February. Jen Statsky continues as showrunner, and McCarthy/Abellera continues on as the casting team. As of now, Season 2 of “Hacks” is expected to premiere in May.
