The upcoming “Jim Jones” film lands Leonardo DiCaprio as its lead.
First reported by Deadline, it seems Leonardo DiCaprio has headed into final talks to star in MGM’s Jim Jones biopic. The Oscar winner will star as the religious cult leader behind the infamous Jonestown mass murder in 1978. It’s unclear how much of the film will be centered on the actual event, which led to 918 deaths including 304 children, versus Jones’ life in general, but the feature will have a lot to work with, starting with the cult leader’s founding of the Peoples Temple in 1955. “Venom” writer Scott Rosenberg wrote the script for the feature, which he will also executive produce. DiCaprio will also produce with Jennifer Davisson via their Appian Way banner.
“One Piece” gets an all-star cast.
Variety is first to the news about casting for the upcoming Netflix live-action series “One Piece.” Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar will star in the series based on the Japanese manga of the same name. The five announced cast members will all play Straw Hat Pirates, the protagonists of the manga and of the series. The story “centers on Luffy (Godoy), a young man who embarks on a journey to become king of the pirates and find the celebrated ‘One Piece’ treasure. Netflix gave the series a 10-episode season order in January, the first of hopefully many considering the anime series has 20 seasons and 14 animated films. Steven Maeda will wear many hats as co-writer, executive producer, and showrunner with Matt Owens co-writing and executive producing. Says the duo, “We are so excited to set sail with this amazing and talented cast. Finding the right people to pull off the looks, emotions, and actions of the iconic Straw Hats was a long and challenging (and fun!) process. Much like the search for the One Piece itself. But we have finally found the perfect fits! They have already begun working very hard to bring these characters to life. You will come to know and love them just as much as their manga counterparts. All of us can’t wait to show you what we’ve come up with! Onward to adventure!”
