We’ve got the latest on the upcoming third installment of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Starring Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and more, the long-awaited production is officially filming now in the Atlanta area. Want to learn how you can get in on the action? From photos from the set and social media, to how you could possibly get cast for future background roles, here’s everything we know about this upcoming project.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is now filming in the greater Atlanta area
A sign of relief for Marvel fans: at last, the Guardians are back as filming for the long-delayed “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” has begun in the Greater Atlanta and Fayetteville areas.
The Daily Mail captured the latest photos from the set where stars Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff were seen in modern costume and in character as Drax and Mantis, respectively. Over on Instagram, Karen Gillan also shared a recent story of her in full Nebula makeup, looking quite battle-worn but doing her best to avoid spoilers, per ComicBook. (Gillan has compiled an Instagram highlight reel, now nearly nine months old, of her first “Vol. 3” Nebula molding.)
James Gunn is writing and directing the third installment of the franchise after previously helming and helping pen Volumes 1 and 2. Chris Pratt is also returning and stars as Peter Quill—a.k.a., Star-Lord and head of the Guardians—and leads the returning cast of Bautista, Klementieff, Gillan, Zoe Saldaña, Sean Gunn, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Sylvester Stallone, and Elizabeth Debicki. A few newcomers are set to make an appearance in this new film, too. Will Poulter, who will play Adam Warlock, and Chukwudi Iwuji, whose role is currently undisclosed, were previously cast earlier this year.
The news surrounding “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” filming status is an exciting one. Especially, because the production has faced several delays—from the COVID-19 shutdown to the firing and then rehiring of Gunn. While it’s been five years since the previous installment, the cast appeared in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame” and will also appear in the upcoming Taika Waititi-helmed “Thor: Love and Thunder,” due in theaters on July 8.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is currently set to release in theaters on May 5, 2023. Marvel veteran Sarah Finn returns to cast the feature—and if you’re looking to get involved, you’re in the right place. Back in October, the production cast with us for several background roles.
