In any given moment, “Landman” can become a radically different show, transitioning from Cami Miller (Demi Moore) giving a deliciously fierce luncheon speech about her takeover of M-Tex Oil to T.L. Norris (Sam Elliott) punching a man in the face before breaking down in tears. But no matter the tone or setting, the cast is always striking oil.

Inspired by co-creator Christian Wallace’s 2019 podcast “Boomtown,” this beloved entry in the Taylor Sheridan universe centers on Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris, a fixer for one of the premier oil companies in Texas. Thornton proves a perfect fit for Sheridan’s writing and worldbuilding, navigating Season 2’s shifting tones with ease: He’s just as good as ripping into Tommy’s enemies as being exasperated by his ex-wife Angela, who Ali Larter portrays with fierce (and oft-infuriating) complexity.
Jacob Lofland continues giving a standout soulful performance as Tommy and Angela’s son Cooper, who faces dangerous complications when he partners with cartel boss Gallino (Andy Garcia). Stepping into the spotlight this season is Demi Moore, bringing both power and vulnerability to her newly-widowed Cami as she steps in to lead the oil company following the death of her husband (Jon Hamm). New to the cast is legendary actor Elliott as Tommy’s broken father T.L., whose palpable anguish unlocks a new emotional dimension for the Norris family.
