Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room.
“The Kane Chronicles”
Fans of Rick Riordan’s work have been on a rollercoaster over the past several years, but hopefully, a recent announcement by the author is a sign of good things to come. The “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series author took to social media and his website to reveal that he is developing feature adaptations of his “The Kane Chronicles” series at Netflix. Writes Riordan, “We have been working on this deal since last October, about the same time we started working on Percy, and I’m so glad I can now announce it! That’s all I can say for the moment, but stay tuned.” The first of the three books in the series, “The Red Pyramid,” was published in 2010, followed by “The Throne of Fire” and “The Serpent’s Shadow.” As we previously reported, Riordan is also developing another streaming project currently: a “Percy Jackson” series at Disney+.
Guy Branum NBC Comedy
NBC is looking to bring a cable network star into its primetime lineup. The network has put in development a single-camera comedy written by and starring “Talk Show The Game Show” creator Guy Branum. Todd Milliner and Sean Hayes’ Hazy Mills, which recently announced they are also developing “The Stratford” for the network, will produce with Universal TV. The untitled project, based on Branum’s life, will follow a gay lawyer who, after the death of his father, moves his mom and niece from their small conservative farm town to West Hollywood. Branum will star as himself (or the character based on himself), but no other casting has been announced.
Disney Inner-City Youth Orchestra Of Los Angeles Movie
First reported by Deadline, Disney is in early development on a new movie for Disney+ about the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles and its founder, Charles Dickerson III. The orchestra, which was founded in 2009 and recently expanded to Chicago, is the largest majority Black orchestra in America and has helped transform the lives of hundreds of young Angelenos who have gone on to perform at world-class venues. The studio reportedly picked up the pitch from Bobby Smith Jr., who will write and executive produce. Brigham Taylor (“The Jungle Book,” “Lady and the Tramp”) will produce via his Taylor Made Film Productions banner.
