Attention all child rockers: “School of Rock: The Musical,” is holding an open casting call on Friday, Feb. 26, for young performers and musicians with dreams of the stage!
Currently shredding it up on the Great White Way, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical is the story of Dewey Finn, a down-on-his-luck rocker who schemes his way into becoming a private school substitute teacher. From there, he concocts the greatest kid rock band of all time. And while Alex Brightman gives a star-making performance as the show's central man-child, the true stars of “School of Rock” are its ensemble of memorable, scene-stealing students.
The February open call is for girls who play bass and boys who play drums, piano, and/or guitar. Auditions to cast these roles will begin at 10 a.m.; and child actors and their guardians can sign in beginning at 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Talents needed are child actors of all ethnicities ages 9–12 and 5’ or shorter. All instruments except guitars will be provided, but actors should come with a headshot and a résumé (if they have one). Most importantly, they should come ready to rock out!
Additionally, “The School of Rock” creative team is running a special online competition to find 10 prospective talents, fly them out to New York City, and guarantee them an audition slot. Three runners-up will win a one-season scholarship to The School of Rock, which includes three months of rock star training and an end-of-season performance. Visit schoolofrockthemusical.com to enter on or before Feb. 15. Winners will be announced Feb. 19.
