Wondering what’s on the development table this week? We have the inside scoop—especially when it comes to HBO’s hit series “True Detective.” The drama’s fourth season is reportedly in development. Along with this news, after decades of failed attempts, it seems a “Voltron” live-action film is also in the works. Outlets are reporting that several studios, including Amazon and Warner Bros., are looking to buy the franchise and have a director and writing team attached. Lastly, Richard Rider, aka Nova, is going to be the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the team from “Moon Knight” signing on to develop a new project for the character. Find out the word through the grapevine below!

“True Detective” Season 4

While it looked to be the end for the hit HBO series “True Detective,” a new case has been opened. According to Variety, a fourth season, currently titled “True Detective: Night Country,” is now officially in development at the cabler with Issa López (“Todo Mal,” the upcoming “The Girl With a Thousand Names” for HBO Max) attached to write, direct the pilot, and executive produce. Barry Jenkins (“Underground Railroad,” “Moonlight”) will also executive produce alongside Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak. The plot is being kept a secret at this time and HBO has declined to comment in any official capacity, but according to Variety’s sources, the season will take place in the Arctic, “where night can last more than 24 hours” and will potentially feature two female leads. No timeline has been reported of when we could expect the fourth season if it does officially come to fruition, but “True Detective” has put out casting calls for its previous three seasons on Backstage, so be sure to keep an eye out when that day does come. The series has several casting directors behind it, including RPM Casting, Vickie Thomas, and more.

Voltron Live-Action Film

Hollywood’s biggest failure to launch is hoping that several times is a charm. Rawson Marshall Thurber (“Red Notice,” “Skyscraper”) is now attached to direct and co-write a live-action adaptation of the 1980s animated TV series “Voltron.” Ellen Shanman will co-write the story of the robot mecha. Despite three television revivals and a major following, the decades-long mission to bring “Voltron” to the big screen has never gotten off the ground, thwarting attempts by Pharrell Williams, Mark Gordon, Atlas Entertainment, and more. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the package is fielding offers from Warner Bros., Universal, Amazon, and more studios, so chances of the project finally getting off the ground are high.

“Nova”

First reported by Deadline, a new entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on its way. Richard Rider, aka Nova, will be the latest character to get its own property, with “Moon Knight” writer Sabir Pirzada on board to write. Nova first appeared in a mid-1970s issue of “Super Adventures” and was a member of the intergalactic police force Nova Corps “for which he gained superhuman abilities including enhanced strength, flight, and resistance to injury.” It’s unknown at this time if this will be a project for the big screen or a new limited series for Disney+, but as always with Marvel projects, it's best to keep your eye on casting director Sarah Finn.
