Someone, call Lin-Manuel Miranda, because super-action-star Vin Diesel is itching to do a musical—but not just any musical: a “Fast and the Furious” musical. The actor stopped by “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” where he was promoting the latest addition to the “Furious” franchise, “F9.” But things took a turn when he admitted he is “dying” to do a musical adaptation of the movies.

Clarkson asked him whether he’d consider doing a song-and-dance version of the high-speed franchise, and he was nothing but enthusiastic.

“I’m dying to do a musical,” he says during the interview. “I’ve been wanting to do a musical my whole life. I was this close to doing ‘Guys and Dolls,’ with Steven Spielberg, and we ended up not doing that, but I’m dying to do a musical. For the longest time, I thought the Nathan Detroit role in ‘Guys and Dolls’ would be a very interesting one to re-vamp.”

Vin Diesel also spoke about his grandmother’s love of musical theater, and his brief but impactful high school theater career. Clarkson was utterly shocked that he was so passionate about musical theater—but needless to say she and many, many others support his enthusiasm to get back to his jazz hands roots.

Who knows? Car crash explosions interwoven with intricately choreographed dance breaks and a campy 11 o'clock number might just be the next “In the Heights.”
