Michael Girgenti always liked the way his voice sounded through a mic—so he started recording. Then he started submitting. Then he booked his first animated voiceover role through Backstage.
“I loved the way my voice sounded in a microphone and hoped maybe others would agree.”
They did. He was cast in “Impress Me,” an animated short about NYC skateboarders, and loved every minute of it.
“The director was very creative. I hope to work with other like-minded people.”
A creative who does it all
Girgenti may be new to voice work on Backstage, but he brings years of creative experience to the booth. A SAG-AFTRA member and two-time Grammy-winning songwriter and producer, he’s also worked in modeling, filmmaking, and children’s media.
Backstage has become one of his go-to platforms for finding new opportunities. Thanks to casting alerts and profile matches, many roles come to him—making it easy to stay in the loop and keep momentum going.
Girgenti is attracted to opportunities that tap into imagination and storytelling, like animation, video games, audiobooks. Projects that spark something familiar and fun.
“They make me feel like a kid again.”
And when it comes to standing out, he believes confidence and presentation matter.
“I think what makes a strong voiceover profile is being confident in your recordings and making sure your page is overall a 10/10.”
Don’t wait. Just start.
For Girgenti, the best way to start is by starting. He’s a believer that momentum begins with action, and letting the rest unfold.
“DO IT! Don’t overthink it.”
And while “Impress Me” was his first voice gig through Backstage, it’s only the beginning.
Armed with imagination, courage, and a deep creative well, Girgenti is on a roll—and picking up speed.
