The Casting Society of America is officially expanding across the pond. The organization has announced the launch of their new, London-based branch that will act as European headquarters. As a presence in the U.K. and Europe as a whole, CSA aims to do what they’ve been doing in the U.S. since 1982—encourage professional practice while growing membership in the region.

“We are thrilled to be expanding our presence and deepening our commitment to producers, directors, and actors in Europe,” said Matthew Lessall, president of CSA.

CSA has a membership of over 800 casting directors and associates who live and work both in the U.S. and internationally. “With members of the casting community all over the world, our London-based branch will serve as a valuable resource in widening the impacts of our mission in a powerful marketplace,” said Lessall.

Nancy Bishop, a London- and Prague-based casting director and CSA National Board member is heading up the interim board. “Although CSA has already been international for a long time, the London office will allow us to be even more active in the European region,” said Bishop.

CSA London will kick off by sponsoring the Screen Stars of Tomorrow, in addition to other panels and informational events during BFI London Film Festival, which begins Oct. 4. CSA will also host an Artios Awards reception in London to recognize film, television, and theater out of Europe.

The London branch will continue initiatives set into motion by CSA’s National Board, like inclusivity in the industry and recognition of casting at major awards shows and festivals, as well as the organization’s charitable work.
