UK actors, crew, and creators – here’s the lowdown on what’s filming big and small across the country. Stay in the loop and be sure to check back every week for projects currently in production in the UK with Backstage’s What’s Filming reporting.

DI Jimmy Perez is back on the case as BBC’s Shetland is heading back to the small screen. The hit crime drama is back for its sixth series soon, but the production is working on two series at once, ramping up filming for the delayed filming of series seven, as well.

After wrapping up September in Quendale, production was set to begin in October on Commercial Street in Lerwick, which will reportedly be closed for the filming of some “very important” scenes. Other filming locations will include Gardie Lane, the Esplanade in Lerwick, Scottish Sea Farms’ base in Ronas Voe, Sandwick, and the Second World War ruins at the Ness of Sound, among others.

The Scotland-based crime drama, which has been running since 2013, stars Douglas Henshaw as DI Jimmy Perez, who, following his wife’s death, relocated to the Shetland Isles, joining the local police force as Detective Inspector and leading a team of investigators in a murder case.

BBC Media Centre has given a first look at the upcoming series, which will centre “on the doorstep murder of a prominent local figure, a case which strikes at the heart of the Shetland Isles and its people. As Perez and his team uncover a kaleidoscope of motives for the murder, their investigation soon takes a shockingly sinister turn.”

Alongside Henshall Shetland stars Alison O’Donnell, Steven Robertson, Erin Armstrong, Mark Bonnar, Jule Graham, and more. Orla O'Connor and Julie Harkin are the series' casting directors.
