UK actors, crew, and creators – here’s the lowdown on what’s filming big and small across the country. Stay in the loop and be sure to check back every week for projects currently in production in the UK with Backstage’s What’s Filming reporting.

It’s an Iron Lady redux for Dame Helen Mirren’s next major project.

The Oscar winner is starring as former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir in the upcoming biopic Golda, which has begun filming in the UK. According to KFTV, cameras have been up and running since 8 November; we got the first look at Mirren in costume and makeup in a production still back in mid-November, followed by on-set shots to ring in December.

Described as a “ticking-clock thriller,” Golda will reportedly follow “the high-stakes responsibilities Meir faced and the controversial decision she made amid infighting among her hostile all-male cabinet.”

Mirren will co-star with House of Gucci and Call My Agent! actor Camille Cottin, who will play Lou Kaddar, Meir’s longtime personal assistant. Ed Stoppard, Lior Ashkenazi, Ben Caplan, Dominic Mafham, Emma Davies, Ellie Piercy, Rami Heuberger, and more will also star.

Oscar-winner Guy Nattiv (Skin) is directing from a script by Nicholas Martin (Florence Foster Jenkins). Six weeks of filming in London is scheduled for the feature, followed by filming on location in Israel. Alex Johnson is the casting director.
