A24 is heading to the small screen in a big way. After securing the rights to the iconic “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” franchise, the studio is developing a TV series inspired by the legendary horror IP. Glen Powell (“Top Gun: Maverick,” “Chad Powers”) is on board as a producer, with filmmaker JT Mollner (“The Long Walk,” “Strange Darling”) attached to direct.
The studio is also in early development on a new “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” feature, but the TV series will take priority. Though most details are still under wraps, here’s everything we know so far about this newly greenlit project.

The new show is expected to honor the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” story without being an exact remake. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Kim Henkel, co-writer of the original 1974 film and an executive producer on the upcoming series, said, “A24’s embrace of boundary-testing genre film and its record of working with artists who are inclined to test boundaries made them a compelling choice.”
1974’s “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” co-written and directed by Tobe Hooper, follows the doomed story of a group of teenagers who encounter a family of cannibals while exploring an abandoned homestead in rural Texas. After grossing more than $30 million at the box office, the slasher film solidified its place as one of the most influential horror movies of all time and is credited for originating classic horror elements, such as the final girl.
At this time, no cast members have been announced, and there aren’t any details about whether the series will recast characters from previous installments or introduce a new group of characters. While Powell is attached to the series as a producer, he’s not expected to appear onscreen in an acting role.
Over the years, the franchise has starred top actors including Matthew McConaughey and Renée Zellweger in 1994’s “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation,” Jessica Biel in 2003’s “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” Matt Bomer in 2006’s “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning,” and Alexandra Daddario in 2013’s “Texas Chainsaw.”
The project’s executive producers include Roy Lee and Steven Schneider for Spooky Pictures, Ben Ross for Image Nation, Stuart Manashil, Dan Cohen and Powell for Barnstorm, and Henkel for Exurbia Films.
