After years of speculation, a fourth installment of “The Mummy” franchise is reportedly in active development, with Universal Pictures pursuing a legacy sequel to the films. Sources indicate that original stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are currently in talks to return to their iconic roles as Rick and Evelyn “Evie” O’Connell, potentially reuniting the actors onscreen after more than two decades, since 2001’s “The Mummy Returns.” (Maria Bello took over the role of Evie in the third installment.)

In an exclusive interview with Fraser about his Oscar-contending role in “Rental Family,” he remained coy about any updates.

“Well, you do know that my lips are sealed about answering too many questions about that one, Fraser told us. “I am hopeful that we can be talking about this again soon, because the fans deserve what they want.”

“The Mummy,” released in 1999, grossed over $409 million worldwide, per Box Office Mojo—and helped define the early 2000s blockbuster. Now, with fresh creative leadership behind the camera, the franchise is poised for a new chapter. Here’s everything we know about the exciting project.
