“DMZ”
Atlanta may soon begin to look a little bit like New York City as filming for the new HBO limited series “DMZ,” starring Rosario Dawson and Benjamin Bratt and directed-produced by Ava DuVernay, is now underway. Based on a DC/Vertigo comic, “DMZ” is set in a near-future America where Manhattan has become a demilitarized zone devastated and isolated from the rest of the world. Dawson will play Alma Ortega, “a fearless and fierce medic who sets out on a harrowing journey to find the son she lost when New York City was evacuated at the beginning of the conflict.” Bratt plays Parco Delgado, the popular and deadly leader of one of the DMZ’s most powerful gangs. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, production is scheduled to run from June 14–Aug. 3 with its home base on John Raulet property. We reported about the pilot filming around Georgia State University’s downtown campus last year right before the coronavirus shutdown, which DuVernay also directed. The pilot was picked up to series back in November. Dawson and Bratt will star alongside Venus Ariel, Jordan Preston Carter, Hoon Lee, Jade Wu, and more. Roberto Patino (“Westworld,” “Sons of Anarchy”) will adapt the comic. Regular DuVernay casting director Aisha Coley will work on the new series, as well.
