Audiences might soon be humming the tune to '’Remember Me” because “Coco 2” is officially a go at Disney. The sequel to 2017’s Academy Award–winning “Coco” is coming to theaters in 2029, per Variety. Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the news at the company’s 2025 shareholder meeting, saying, “While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart, and adventure.” For those wanting to learn more about this exciting follow-up film, here’s everything we know about “Coco 2.”’

Plot details for “Coco 2” haven’t been revealed just yet, but it’s safe to say that some of the sequel’s storyline will mimic the original film.
“Coco” follows a 12-year-old aspiring guitar player named Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez), whose family has a generation-old ban on music. On Dίa de Los Muertos, Miguel accidentally ends up in the Land of the Dead. There, he seeks out his deceased great-great-grandfather and enlists the dead musician Héctor (Gael García Bernal), who he hopes can help him find his ancestor and discover the real story behind his family’s fraught history with music.
Lee Unkrich, who won the Academy Award for best animated feature for “Coco” and “Toy Story 3,” is directing the sequel. He is joined by Adrian Molina as co-director, who was also his co-director for the original movie. Mark Nielsen, an Academy Award winner for “Toy Story 4,” is producing the film.

While García Bernal and Gonzalez could return as Héctor and Miguel, there haven’t been any official casting announcements yet for “Coco 2.” As the follow-up film continues its development cycle, we expect to hear casting news in the coming months.
The full cast of “Coco” included Gonzalez, García Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Edward James Olmos, Ana Ofelia Murguía, Renée Victor, Jaime Camil, Sofía Espinosa, Luis Valdez, Lombardo Boyar, Gabriel Iglesias, Cheech Marin, Alanna Ubach, Alfonso Arau, Selene Luna, and Herbert Siguenza.
