By the power of Grayskull, He-Man is coming! The hulked-out hero is once again taking on Skeletor in the new live-action reboot of “Masters of the Universe.” Playing the hero is rising newcomer Nicholas Galitzine (“Red, White & Royal Blue,” “The Idea of You”), who will star alongside several big-name actors, including Idris Elba, Alison Brie, Camila Mendes, Morena Baccarin, and Jared Leto. The film hits theaters on June 5, 2026, and with much more lore to explore, we wouldn’t be surprised if a sequel could be on the development cycle horizon (or at least we hope!).
For those who want to learn more about the reboot and the franchise’s future, here’s everything we know about the new “Masters of the Universe” film.

“Masters of the Universe” will focus on He-Man’s origin story. Destined to become the most powerful man in the universe, the tale begins with a 10-year-old Prince Adam (aka He-Man), who has crashed to Earth in a spacecraft, separating him from his magical Sword of Power. As the only link to his home, Eternia, Adam spends the better part of 15 years searching for the object that ultimately transports him back to his former planet. Once back on Eternia, Adam discovers the evil Skeletor has left his home in ruins, leaving the prince with no choice but to team up with his allies, Teela and Man-At-Arms, and embrace his destiny to become He-Man, the one person who can restore Eternia to its former glory.
“Masters of the Universe,” also known as the “He-Man” or “She-Ra” series, is a Mattel media franchise that originated from the company’s 1982 action figures. The characters have since expanded into comic books, animated series, and live-action films. The Galitzine-led reboot will be the franchise’s second film, following the 1987 action-fantasy feature of the same name starring Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella, and Courteney Cox.
According to Deadline, after failed attempts by Sony and Netflix, Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films are bringing the reboot to theaters. Travis Knight (“Bumblebee”) directed the film, and Chris Butler provided the script (an initial draft was already written by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee). The reboot is being produced by Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner and Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch. Denise Chamian (“Saving Private Ryan,” “Elvis”) served as casting director on the film.

In May 2024, the “Masters of the Universe” reboot made headlines when Galitzine was officially cast as Prince Adam of Eternia and his alter ego, He-Man. Following this exciting news, Elba and Mendes joined the project as Duncan, Man-At-Arms, and his adopted daughter, Teela, respectively. Both characters are “good guys” in the He-Man universe: Teela, the Captain of the Royal Guard, is responsible for protecting the royal family (which includes Prince Adam), and Duncan is the weapons master and combat instructor. Additionally, viewers can expect to see Baccarin as the Sorceress, Teela’s biological mother; Brie as Evil-Lyn, one of Skeletor’s most powerful allies; and Leto as Skeletor, the dastardly warlock who left Eternia in ruins under his rule. Sam C. Wilson (as Trap Jaw), Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (as Goat Man), and Kojo Attah (as Tri-Klops) will play Skeletor’s trio of henchmen.
In February 2025, Galitzine shared a first look at his transformation for the lead role.
In an interview with W Magazine, Galitzine opened up about how he was preparing for this prominent superhero role. “There’s been a lot of eating and weightlifting, [and] a lot of stunts,” he said. “I’m eating about 4,000 calories a day, but the amount of physical work I’m doing, you end up hungry at the end of the day, which is quite surprising. This is the fun part. I will eventually go into what’s called the cutting phase, where I’m going to be starved and so rude to everyone. I can only apologize for the person I’m going to become in a few months’ time.”
As for who’s playing He-Man’s iconic villain Skeletor, Leto is stepping into the role. Alongside Leto is Brie, who’s playing one of Skeletor's most powerful allies, Evil-Lyn. A trio of Skeletor’s henchmen have also been cast: Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops.
With the film set to premiere on June 5, 2026, it’s obvious that casting is complete—but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a sequel. Therefore, it’s a good idea to bookmark our main casting page for updates. Or, if you don’t have one already, securing an agent can help actors land an audition for a high-profile project.

“Masters of the Universe” will hit theaters on June 5, 2026—right at the height of summer’s tentpole season.
As mentioned, while there are no definitive plans to expand the reboot with additional films, the team will have plenty of new material if it so chooses, as this theatrical release will also spawn a 12-part comic book series on the He-Man and Skeletor saga, which will debut its first issue in August 2026. Should the film succeed at the box office, we wouldn’t be surprised if these characters head back to the big screen for another go-round.
