Housewives, grab your apples. The seemingly ideal cul-de-sac where “Desperate Housewives” found eight seasons of mystery and intrigue is getting a second moment in the sun. “Wisteria Lane,” a reboot of ABC’s Emmy-winning drama from the early aughts, is officially in the works. While still in the beginning stages of development, the new series already promises more manicured homes and gorgeous neighbors dealing with plenty of lies, forbidden love stories, and covered-up crimes.
Here’s everything we know about “Wisteria Lane,” the “Desperate Housewives” reboot.

Variety reports that the plot for “Wisteria Lane” is similar to “Desperate Housewives.” The logline states the reboot is “set around a group of five very different friends, and sometimes frenemies, who all live on a picture-perfect cul-de-sac called Wisteria Lane. On the surface, all the Wisteria neighbors are living the dream: beautiful homes, gorgeous families, shiny SUVs in the driveway. But behind those white picket fences and smiling Insta posts are secrets.”
While “Wisteria Lane” seems to be staying true to the “Desperate Housewives” formula, we think the logline’s mention of Instagram may be instructive. Social media was in its infancy when the original series premiered in 2004; now it’s a full-blown phenomenon that could play a significant role in the stories “Wisteria Lane” tells.
According to Deadline, Onyx Collective is developing “Wisteria Lane,” with Kerry Washington and Pilar Savone attached to executive produce via their Simpson Street banner and 20th Television. In addition, Stacey Sher is an executive producer via Shiny Penny.
Natalie Chaidez is writing the script and will executive produce. Chaidez is best known for co-showrunning the second season of Max’s “The Flight Attendant” and showrunning USA’s “Queen of the South.”
At this time, “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry is not involved with the reboot.

It’s still too early for casting announcements, but it’s not unlikely for Washington to be offered a role as she’s already attached as an executive producer. Stay tuned for more casting updates as the project continues its development cycle.
