The fantasy series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is officially in the works. Several outlets have reported that Disney+ has ordered the new TV series, which will be based on the bestselling books by Rick Riordan. Here’s everything we know about this new project and its casting opportunities.

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” Series Officially Gets the Greenlight

In an Olympic feat, Disney+ will bring fans more Percy Jackson. It was finally announced last week that the series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” was picked up at the streamer. Book series writer Rick Riordan released a video through Disney+’s YouTube channel to mark the announcement, which comes as a series confirmation after being long-rumored since May 2020. According to Variety, Riordan and Jon Steinberg will write the pilot with James Bobin (“Dora and the Lost City of Gold”) set to direct. Casting is now underway for the series, which will reportedly tell “the fantastical story of the titular 12-year-old modern demigod, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Now Percy must trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus.” Book series entries “Lightning Thief” and “Sea of Monsters” have previously been adapted into feature films, but given their mixed response, it seems unlikely any of the films’ cast will return.
