Several outlets are reporting that Ciara is the latest addition to the already star-studded ensemble, which includes Danielle Brooks, Fantasia Barrino, and Taraji P. Henson. Ciara Is the Latest Star To Join the Upcoming ‘The Color Purple’ Movie

The A-list cast of the upcoming adaptation of the musical “The Color Purple” is once again leveling up. According to Entertainment Tonight, Ciara is the latest addition to the feature film, which is also currently casting background work with us. As for Ciara's role in the highly-anticipated film, she is set to play the adult version of Nettie. The singer-actor joins the previously announced Halle Bailey, who plays the younger version of the same character, Danielle Brooks, Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Louis Gossett Jr., David Alan Grier, Tamela J. Mann,  Phylicia Mpasi, Deon Cole, and Stephen Hill. Filming for the movie musical, which will be directed by Blitz Bazawule and written by Marcus Gardley, has already begun in Georgia. It will be released on Dec. 20, 2023.
