The new ITV miniseries “Nolly” has its lead. Helena Bonham Carter is taking on sexism in the industry as she will play the British soap star, Noele Gordon in the new series. Here’s everything we know about this upcoming project.

Helena Bonham Carter has found her next role.

Always drawn to eccentrics and strong women, Helena Bonham Carter has found her next role. The powerhouse will star in ITV’s “Nolly,” which will follow “the reign and fall from grace of TV legend Noele Gordon, who was a mainstay on long-running ITV soap opera “Crossroads” for 18 years until she was unceremoniously fired.” The three-part limited series comes from “It’s a Sin” writer and returning “Doctor Who” showrunner Russell T. Davies, as well as producer Nicola Shindler and her new banner Quay Street Productions. (This marks the first project for the new production outfit. Davies and Shindler have a long collaboration history together that includes projects such as “It’s a Sin,” “Queer as Folk,” “Years and Years,” and more. Says Bonham Carter, “Noele Gordon was a fascinating, complex, brilliant and gutsy woman — none of which I knew before I read Russell T Davies’ script. I’m so thrilled to help tell Nolly’s long overdue and largely forgotten story. Russell’s screenplay is a work of brilliance and I hope I’ll do him and Nolly justice. I can’t wait to start.” Peter Hoar, who worked with Davies on “It’s a Sin,” will direct. Production is set to begin next year. Andy Pryor (“Doctor Who”) is the casting director— find out how he finds new talent here!
