Prepare to be swept away by a new remake of the iconic psychological thriller “Cape Fear.” Apple TV+ is developing a 10-episode series starring Amy Adams (“American Hustle,” “Sharp Objects”), Patrick Wilson (“The Phantom of the Opera”), and Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Dune”). But the project’s award-winning lineup doesn’t end there: Martin Scorsese, director of the 1991 “Cape Fear” adaptation, has signed on as an executive producer alongside Steven Spielberg, who produced Scorsese’s film. Developed by writer-showrunner Nick Antosca (“Channel Zero,” “A Friend of the Family”), the series will allow for a deeper look at the characters’ backstories in ways that the 1991 and 1962 film adaptations did not.
“Cape Fear” is currently filming in Atlanta, which means casting notices for this high-profile project are likely to pop up. Want to get in on the action? Here’s what to know about the “Cape Fear” series if you’re hoping to get involved.

The remake will be loosely based on the 1957 novel “The Executioners” by John D. MacDonald, which inspired the two previous “Cape Fear” films. While the exact direction of Antosca’s adaptation remains unknown for now, the logline from Apple TV+ states, “A storm is coming for happily married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden when Max Cady (played by Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.”
The core cast stars:
- Amy Adams as Amanda Bowden
- Patrick Wilson as Steve Bowden
- Javier Bardem as Max Cady
Additional cast members include Jullian Dulce Vida, Daniel Di Amante, CCH Pounder, Martha Millan, Evan Ivory, Jerard McWhirter, Anna Baryshnikov, Jamie Hector, Clara Wong, Lily Collias, Joe Anders, and Malia Pyles.

In addition to Spielberg and Scorsese, stars Adams and Bardem are also executive producing the series. Antosca and Alex Hedlund (“Chucky”) will executive produce for Universal Content Productions and Eat the Cat, Antosca’s own company. Darryl Frank (“Resident Alien”) and Justin Falvey (“Halo”) will executive produce for Amblin.
Production on “Cape Fear” is already underway in Atlanta and is expected to wrap this fall. So it’s a good idea to keep our Atlanta casting call page bookmarked for potential notices. While waiting for casting calls to trickle in, you can also check out these opportunities that are available now:
