Following the announcement of its film nominees, Film Independent has revealed the television nominations for the 2023 Independent Spirit Awards, taking place on March 4, 2023.

The Apple TV+ drama “Pachinko” is already a winner, taking home this year’s title for best ensemble in a new scripted series. The cast includes Soji Arai, Jin Ha, Inji Jeong, Minha Kim, Kaho Minami, Lee Minho, Steve Sanghyun Noh, Anna Sawai, Jimmi Simpson, and Yuh-jung Youn.

Elsewhere, four different series—”Abbott Elementary,” “The Bear,” “Severance,” and “Station Eleven”—all tied for the most nominations at three apiece. Of those shows, “Abbott Elementary” is the only one not nominated for best new scripted series. But the ABC workplace comedy is well-represented in the acting categories, with Quinta Brunson up for best lead performance in a new scripted series, as well as Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph competing for best supporting performance in a new scripted series.

This year marks the first that Film Independent opted for gender neutral acting categories, with the ten-nominee lead and supporting categories taking the place of “best male performance” and “best female performance.”

“As the television landscape continues to evolve, and independent artists expand the idea of how stories can be told, we’re proud to be changing with them,” Josh Welsh, president of Film Independent, said in a statement. “With our new categories and gender-neutral acting awards, we hope to better reflect the diversity of incredible work being created by these talented artists.”

The Spirit Awards are voted on by the members of Film Independent, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit devoted to the creation and promotion of indie projects. Below is the full list of TV nominations.
