Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room.
“24”
In just the nick of time, Jack Bauer could finally be springing back into action. According to Deadline, there are currently “active creative discussions” to bring back the Kiefer Sutherland-fronted terrorism drama series “24” to Fox, with Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn confirming the news that there is “potential” the show could return in some form. This is only the latest rumor we’ve heard about the long-running series returning, following conversations with Gordon and Thorn last year that a new incarnation was in the works with “The Resident” showrunner Todd Harthan, a rumor that followed even more rumors, including “24” with a female lead, a “24” prequel series, and more. The franchise itself has had two more runs at it since its initial run in 2001 that ran for eight seasons, including a 12-episode limited series that ran in 2014 and a Corey Hawkins-led spin-off, “24: Legacy,” that ran for one season. Take the latest rumors with a grain of salt as per usual, but keep an eye on “Legacy” CD Lisa Miller Katz and/or original series Debi Manwiller just to be safe.
“Couture”
First reported by Deadline, Nick Cassavetes will step into the world of high fashion to co-write “Couture,” a contemporary drama, with Sean Glover (“After Everything”). “The Notebook” filmmaker is also in early negotiations to direct the picture, which will follow an iconic fashion designer whose empire must take a back seat to her daughter’s mental illness. Says Glover to Deadline about “Couture,” “For quite some time now we have been speaking with psychiatrists, psychologists, and mental health advocacy groups on ways we can give a voice to some of the challenges people in the mental health community face that sometimes not even their family members are aware of. We decided to make a film that takes a genuine look at what it is like living with a mental illness and I couldn’t be more thrilled Nick is leading the ship of bringing this story to life.” Glover will produce with Mary Aloe and executive produce on behalf of Aloe Entertainment. No casting has been announced at this time.
“Fellow Travelers”
Over at Showtime, Matt Bomer is currently attached to star in and executive produce a series adaptation of the Thomas Mallon novel “Fellow Travelers” that is now in development at the Cabler. First reported by Variety, Ron Nyswaner is adapting the book for the screen and will also serve as showrunner and executive producer on the series. The political thriller and epic love story unfolds in the era of McCarthyism and resolves in the age of AIDS and follows “the intertwined lives and volatile romance of two very different men, Hawkins “Hawk” Fuller (Bomer) and Tim Kovacs, through purges, wars, protests, and plagues, overcoming obstacles in the world and in themselves.” Bomer, Nyswaner, Michael Grandage, and Robbie Rogers will executive produce with Grandage directing at least one of the episodes. Casting for the character of Tim and further casting has yet to be announced.
