Acting Against Adversity: One Actor’s Success Story

"If you know in your heart this is what you live to do, then do it! No matter how much people tell you it's an impractical dream. …If you have something in your heart, it's for a reason. You don't need to know how to do everything. Just put one foot in front of the other until a path becomes clear."

For Stephanie Cedano, the path to becoming a model, UGC creator, and actor wasn't just about chasing a dream—it was about reclaiming her voice and inspiring others. As a survivor of domestic violence and homelessness, Cedano saw the entertainment industry as more than just a career choice; it was a purpose.

"It's my lifelong dream and my calling!" Cedano explained. "It’s my mission to help uplift people like me by being my best and greatest self."

Perseverance pays off

Since 2018, Cedano has been using Backstage to turn that mission into reality. Her determination has paid off, landing her modeling and acting roles in films and ad content for major brands like Milk Studios, Nokia, Savage x Fenty, Shapermint, and TikTok Shop.

But success didn't come overnight. Cedano's journey is a testament to the power of patience and persistence.

"Out of 100 applications, I may get cast for one," she revealed. "But that one is exactly what is needed to help me get to the next one, and the next one, and the next one."

Living the dream against all odds

For those just starting out, Cedano's advice is simple but powerful. "If you know in your heart this is what you live to do, then do it! No matter how much people tell you it's an impractical dream."

"It's also okay to make sure your needs are met while chasing your dreams," she added, acknowledging the real-world challenges many aspiring actors face, emphasizing the possibility of living a fulfilling life that balances practicality with passion.

Being yourself

Cedano's approach to auditioning is to be prepared, but mostly, to be herself. "I honestly just go for it," she said. "When I'm asked to audition, I just go and be myself while following instructions. For castings, I practice poses and my lines at home in the mirror."

Like many in the industry, Cedano has faced her share of challenges. "Learning to overcome self-doubt has been the biggest lesson," she admitted. "Every time I'm worried I'm not good enough, the universe proves that I'm enough!"

Building networks

Living near NYC, Cedano has found networking and collaborative work keys to her success. "Going out to network helped a lot," she shared. "Also, doing free, collaborative work with other like-minded people helped me build my portfolio while getting to know other creators."

Building relationships in the industry is crucial, and Cedano has a proactive strategy. "I always ask for everyone's socials on set. From the director to the APs. You never know who is going to help you find your next big gig!"

The value of Backstage

For those new to Backstage, Cedano offers encouraging words: "Don't give up. Backstage does background checks, so you don't have to worry much about scams. It's a reliable platform to find real opportunities."

Cedano's story is a powerful reminder that with persistence, self-belief, and the right resources, actors can turn their dreams into reality. Whether you're just starting out or looking to take your career to the next level, Backstage can be a valuable partner in your journey.

Remember, Cedano said, "If you have something in your heart, it's for a reason. You don't need to know how to do everything. Just put one foot in front of the other until a path becomes clear."
