Gearing up for a second season, Netflix’s “North of North” is a charming comedy about Siaja (Anna Lambe), an Inuk woman rebuilding her life after a public breakup. Created by Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, the Canadian series takes place in Nunavut, deep in the Arctic. But despite its icy setting, the show delivers so much heart that it melts right through. Following a successful Season 1, the Arctic comedy is already getting another installment.

Siaja, a young mother, ends her marriage to high school sweetheart Ting (Kelly William) in spectacular fashion just after they’ve been crowned king and queen of the seal hunt. Between homes, she and her daughter, Bun (Keira Belle Cooper), move in with her mother, Neevee (Maika Harper). Siaja takes a new job as assistant to Helen (Mary Lynn Rajskub), who facilitates the town’s community center.
Meanwhile, a new research facility is considering Ice Cove as its future home; Siaja is tasked with helping pitch the town, and she develops a connection with one of the visiting researchers, Kuuk (Braeden Clarke). Complicating matters: Kuuk has a girlfriend, and Siaja’s estranged father turns out to be involved with the center.
This all unfolds in Season 1, with more drama, laughs, and heartache sure to come. While Netflix hasn’t released details on what’s ahead for Season 2, expect the show to dig deeper into these storylines.
