Martin Scorsese is a directing legend, so it’s no surprise that studios and streamers are clamoring for the chance to distribute his next film. The project, which is still untitled, is about a Hawaiian crime boss and his ruthless pursuit to control organized crime on the islands. Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, and Leonardo DiCaprio are already on board to star, so it’s only a matter of time until a studio or streamer wins the rights to distribute the movie.
While waiting for a distributor to claim the film, learn more about who’s involved with the exciting project here.

According to Deadline, the movie is based on a real-life figure—a mob boss who rose up to build Hawaii’s most powerful criminal empire. This native son of Hawaii battled rival criminal factions and mainland corporations to gain control of the islands in the 1960s and ’70s. The project appears to be a great criminal saga, with the Hollywood Reporter saying it’s “in the mold of Scorsese’s ‘Goodfellas’ and ‘The Departed.’ ”
Scorsese, DiCaprio, Blunt, Johnson, Nick Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn are listed as producers per Deadline. Johnson and Blunt starred together in Disney’s 2021 film “Jungle Cruise” and are set to lead the forthcoming A24 movie “The Smashing Machine,” directed by Benny Safdie; the two actors reportedly brought the idea to Scorsese and DiCaprio. All four then enlisted Bilton to pen the script, which he will do once the movie has been claimed by a studio or streamer.
Only Johnson, Blunt, and DiCaprio have been cast at this time, and there likely won’t be any new names until the movie is set up at a studio or streamer.
Johnson and Blunt are new to Scorsese’s work, but DiCaprio has a famous partnership with the director; he’s starred in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Shutter Island,” “The Departed,” “The Aviator,” and “Gangs of New York.” DiCaprio is also in talks to star in Scorsese’s “The Devil in the White City,” an adaptation of Erik Larson’s 2003 book of the same name.
